America, Real Madrid & others will play in the FIFA Club World Cup

Club America, Real Madrid and five other clubs will be in Japan to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. The yearly tournament hosted by FIFA is played between December 8th and the 18th. The teams participating are winners of their respective confederation tournament like Concacaf’s Champions League & EUFA Champions League so it truly is a world cup. On paper he EUFA Champions League winner is the automatic favorite but South American teams have won this tournaments in it’s new format.

Because the tournament is played in Japan, game times for US will be late at night for west coast fans and in the early morning for east coast fans. Check out the schedule at the FIFA website for the tournament to find out when your favorite team plays.

Club America played Korean squad Jeonbuk Hyunda Motors FCi in the first round of the tournament. Joenbuk scored an early goal but Club America was able to comeback for the win thanks to two goals in the second half from Silvio Romero. The win for Club America means they’ll be playing Real Madrid in one of the semifinals of the tournament.

In the 2014 version of this tournament, Real Madrid played and beat Ligamx team Cruz Azul 4-0 in the semifinals so this won’t be their first meeting a Mexican team. Real Madrid arrived in Japan after playing a La Liga match against Deportivo La Coruna, a game they won 3-2 with a dramatic ending.

The semifinal game between Real Madrid & Club America will be played on Thursday December 15th at 5:30am est/ 2:30am pst and it will be on Fox Sports 1. Fox Sports 1 which is available on Sling TV with either the Blue or Orange + Blue package.
